In the aftermath of unprecedented rainfall, North West Bengal is grappling with the devastating impacts of flash floods and landslides that have claimed at least 27 lives. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee pointed fingers at man-made factors and highlighted challenges faced due to the lack of central government funds.
The Chief Minister revealed that the victims include citizens from Nepal and Bhutan and lamented infrastructural damage. Despite hurdles, she assured that rescue missions and restoration efforts are enthusiastically underway in affected areas like Nagrakata and Mirik, with state departments working tirelessly to mitigate the crisis.
Criticizing political distractions, Banerjee stressed the urgency of relief over ceremonial protocols during such crises. As part of the state's response, she announced a financial aid of Rs 5 lakh and Special Homeguard jobs for the families of the deceased, asserting the state's commitment to support the bereaved.
