India's fertiliser security is strong and stable, the government announced Friday, countering claims of potential shortages. An additional 25 lakh tonne of urea has been imported to support the upcoming kharif sowing season starting in June.
Present fertiliser stocks consistently surpass national needs, according to the Department of Fertilizers. As of now, urea availability is at 69.33 lakh tonne compared to the required 18.17 lakh tonne, and DAP availability is 22.78 lakh tonne against 5.90 lakh tonne needed.
Despite global fertiliser price hikes, the Indian government is maintaining affordable rates for farmers, showing improved planning and management. The government remains committed to ensuring the uninterrupted supply of fertilisers across the nation, advising states to prevent any black marketing or hoarding.
