Kerala's electricity sector faces significant challenges as power demand surges to unprecedented levels due to sweltering summer heat. The state's electricity supply system struggles to cope with the increase, leading to periodic power interruptions amidst public complaints.
Electricity Minister K Krishnankutty clarified that the power cuts are unintentional consequences of system overload caused by high consumption, particularly during peak hours. He assured efforts to procure additional power and maintain affordable tariffs, acknowledging the importance of boosting in-state generation for long-term energy security.
However, the opposition has accused the state government of mismanagement, alleging corruption and demanding immediate action against unannounced load shedding. Stakeholders continue to call for strategic measures to ensure consistent electricity supply as demand outpaces projections.
