Former Block Development Council member Shafiq Mir has paid tribute to the late Fazal Hussain Tahir Chaudhary, known widely as Haji Tahir Fazal, for his fearless contributions during the militancy standoff in Hill Kaka, Rajouri. Mir emphasized the importance of commemorating Haji Tahir's sacrifices, particularly his leadership during the 2003 Operation Sarp Vinash.
Haji Tahir Fazal, originally a civil militia commander in Poonch, played a pivotal role by leading local youth in liberating the high-altitude areas of the Pir Panjal range. The movement intensified following the assassination of his brother, Haji Mohammad Arif, by militants for resisting their actions.
Recognized by the Indian Army at his funeral, Haji Tahir's efforts were instrumental in the successful execution of Operation Sarp Vinash, which led to the elimination of 64 terrorists. Mir highlighted the concerning absence of government officials at Haji Tahir's last rites, urging authorities to establish Bufliaz as a model block in his honor.
