Escalating Tensions: UAE's Defense Dilemma Amid Alleged Iranian Attacks
The UAE reports missile and drone attacks by Iran, despite Iran's denial of involvement. Rising tensions mark the second consecutive day of such incidents, following a period of calm after a US-announced ceasefire. UAE reserves the right to respond to this perceived threat.
The United Arab Emirates' defense ministry announced on Tuesday that its air defenses were countering alleged missile and drone attacks originating from Iran. Iran's joint military command, however, refuted these claims, stating no recent operations against the UAE had been conducted.
These developments mark the second consecutive day of reported attacks, disrupting a four-week period of relative peace following the US-backed ceasefire. Despite the UAE's allegations, Reuters could not independently verify accounts from either side involved in the conflict.
Tensions further escalated as the UAE foreign ministry condemned these actions as a severe threat to national security, asserting their right to retaliate. The unrest follows a Monday incident where UAE defenses responded to threats amid a significant fire in an oil zone, allegedly traced back to Iran.
