An influential all-party parliamentary delegation from the Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs visited Srinagar's iconic Clock Tower at Lal Chowk on Monday. Fazlul Haseeb, Commissioner of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, highlighted the visit's significance, stating it is a part of a three-day evaluation tour involving key reviews in Gulmarg to showcase visible development on the ground.
Urban development MPs, including Shiv Sena's Ravindra Dattaram Waikar, are in the region to assess whether central government-allocated funds have been effectively utilized for infrastructural development. BJP MP Alok Sharma praised the NDA government's development work, marking the delegation's visit as historic, emphasizing Jammu and Kashmir's integral role in India, with over 18 MPs in attendance.
During the visit, Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy highlighted political tensions citing PM Modi's conditional promise of support to Telangana contingent on political alliance. Meanwhile, TDP MP Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy discussed his committee's itinerary from Tirupati to Hyderabad, reaching Srinagar. He underscored the increased local engagement and the Prime Minister's vision for Kashmir's global recognition as a peaceful location.
