India, alongside IFAD, has launched a new programme for 2026-2033 to boost rural incomes, resilience, and sustainable livelihoods. The scheme is consistent with the Viksit Bharat@2047 vision and focuses on socioeconomic and climate resilience. It highlights grassroots institutions' roles such as SHGs, FPOs, and cooperatives.
The Government of India, in collaboration with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), unveiled an eight-year programme on Tuesday, slated for 2026 to 2033. This initiative aims to enhance rural incomes, build resilience, and expand sustainable livelihood opportunities throughout the country.
The Ministry of Finance stated that the Country Strategic Opportunities Programme (COSOP) aligns with the Viksit Bharat@2047 vision. It targets strategic priorities such as boosting the social, economic, and climate resilience of rural communities and strengthening knowledge systems.
Anuradha Thakur, Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs, emphasized that "IFAD's programmes in India are deeply integrated with national priorities, aiding in agricultural transformations and diversifying livelihoods." The initiative underscores the importance of grassroots organizations like Self-Help Groups, Farmer Producer Organisations, and cooperatives in connecting finance, technology, and markets.
