The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) have commenced investigations at the crime scene in Madhyamgram, North 24 Parganas, following the murder of Chandranath Rath, personal assistant to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The CBI official refrained from disclosing any details about their ongoing probe.

The CBI officially took over the investigation of Rath's murder last week. Suvendu Adhikari, who later assumed the role of Bengal's Chief Minister, had alleged that the murder was premeditated due to Rath's association with him.

A special investigation team (SIT) led by a DIG-rank officer has been formed. Rath, who previously served in the Indian Air Force, was killed near Madhyamgram on May 6 and died due to his injuries at the hospital. Three suspects, arrested from states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, are now in police custody, with additional charges related to evidence destruction applied.
