In a major move towards fuel conservation, Himachal Governor Kavinder Gupta has designated Lok Bhavan as a 'fuel conservation zone' and called on universities to spearhead the conservation movement, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's plea to cut fuel consumption amid the West Asia crisis.
The governor introduced 'petrol-free Sundays', with no official vehicles using fuel on that day, and committed to cutting his official convoys by half. He also urged vice-chancellors to foster campus energy conservation, and encouraged students to become ambassadors of fuel conservation in their communities.
Highlighting the importance of 'vocal for local', Gupta promoted local products over imported goods, advocating for domestic tourism to save fuel and strengthen national responsibility. The initiative positions Himachal Pradesh as a model in addressing global energy challenges.
