Tension in the Strait: Indian LPG Tankers Navigate Volatile Waters

Amid escalating tensions in the region, two liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tankers bound for India have successfully traversed the contentious Strait of Hormuz. The LPG tanker Symi entered the Gulf of Oman on May 13, followed by NV Sunshine, which passed through safely despite heightened geopolitical risks.

In a separate incident, Haji Ali, an Indian dhow, came under attack in Omani waters while en route from Somalia to Sharjah, UAE. The assault led to a fire and the vessel's eventual sinking. Fortunately, the Omani Coast Guard was able to rescue all 14 crew members without incident, ensuring their safe arrival at Oman's Dibba Port.

The Indian government is maintaining close collaboration with Omani authorities to manage the situation. This maritime activity unfolds against the backdrop of stalled peace talks and the arrival of Iran's Foreign Minister in India, highlighting the ongoing volatility in a region crucial for global energy supplies.
