DMK Calls for NEET Abolition in Tamil Nadu

The DMK party has intensified its demand for the abolition of the NEET examination in Tamil Nadu, with spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai endorsing former Chief Minister MK Stalin's appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Annadurai described NEET as an 'evil' that places undue stress on students and argued that the examination system was not viable for a diverse country like India.

Annadurai criticized the 'one-size-fits-all' policy enforced by the Union government, asserting that Tamil Nadu's educational and healthcare needs differ significantly from those of other states. He expressed concerns about NEET fostering a 'coaching class mafia' and highlighted recurrent issues like paper leaks, calling for the exam's termination within Tamil Nadu.

MK Stalin emphasized the need for a shift back to admission based on high school marks, citing persistent irregularities and public distrust in NEET. Stalin called for an ordinance to allow state governments to independently decide on medical admissions, referencing the Undergraduate Medical Degree Courses Bill, 2021, as a viable alternative pending Presidential approval.
