Keralam's Chief Minister-designate, VD Satheesan, on Friday, urged the government to embrace simplicity amid financial constraints, highlighting the need to cut unnecessary luxuries. He stated he would continue using his current official car instead of acquiring a new one, emphasizing responsible use of public funds.

Addressing reporters, Satheesan warned that purchasing a new vehicle would convey a detrimental message, especially during worsening financial conditions. He advocated for simplicity the government can emulate by showing restraint and will retain his existing vehicle. Satheesan also instructed police to minimize disruption during his travel, advocating for fewer vehicle escorts.

"I have directed the police to avoid causing public inconvenience," Satheesan said, "Only a minimal number of vehicles should accompany me. Demonstrating extravagance leads others to do the same, which our treasury cannot support." Satheesan also met Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala at his residence.

The Congress recently named Satheesan as Keralam's next Chief Minister following the UDF's sweeping win in the 2026 Assembly elections. He is set to be sworn in on May 18 at Lok Bhavan after the UDF won 102 seats, ending the LDF's decade-long reign. Satheesan had been the Leader of the Opposition since 2021.
