CBI Takes Over Twisha Sharma Case Amid Fresh Legal Challenges

The Supreme Court of India on Monday mandated that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) take over the investigation of the Twisha Sharma case, marking a significant shift in the pursuit of justice for the deceased Noida resident. Twisha, who died on May 12, 2026, was allegedly subjected to mental torture and dowry harassment by her husband, Samarth Singh, and his family.

In the wake of Twisha's death, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was deployed to recreate the crime scene, drawing insights from the interrogation of Singh, the prime accused. According to authorities, Singh tried to mislead the investigation but admitted his wife was distressed following an abortion. The SIT seized Singh's electronic devices and key documents during the probe.

The Supreme Court's directive for a CBI inquiry came after a hearing dealing with overlapping legal challenges across various courts, including disputes concerning anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh, a family member of the accused. Legal representatives from both families are preparing for follow-up hearings, scheduled in the Madhya Pradesh High Court on May 27, 2026.
