On Thursday, Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee condemned the central government for its role in the Staff Selection Commission General Duty (SSC GD) examination scandal, calling it a 'systematic destruction of merit.' In an online post, Banerjee linked this controversy to previous irregularities in CBSE and NEET-UG exams.
The SSC GD examination faced severe criticism following last-minute paper cancellations, technical issues, overcrowding at centers, and allegations of paper leaks. Banerjee insisted that these problems continue to push India's youth into a cycle of anxiety and uncertainty, adding to a history of high-profile examination scandals under the current regime.
According to Banerjee, mismatched allocation and serious security deficiencies blighted the preparation of millions of candidates who traveled far at significant personal cost. He accused the ruling BJP of fostering a system where merit is constantly undermined by systemic failures and appealed for transparent processes to restore faith in educational opportunities.
