The Rouse Avenue court has officially acknowledged a defamation complaint filed by former Delhi Minister Satyender Jain against BJP MLA Karnail Singh. Jain claims Singh made a defamatory statement during a news channel interview on January 19, 2025.
On May 29, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Paras Dalal took cognisance of the complaint, emphasizing that there were sufficient grounds to proceed. The court has ordered Karnail Singh to appear on June 6, indicating that the statements made should have been crafted with greater diligence due to the political contest between Singh and Jain in the same constituency.
The court criticized Singh for making statements without verifying facts, noting that they were unsupported by any official statement from the Enforcement Directorate or public domain sources. The case will explore whether Singh's actions fall under exceptions to criminal defamation law. The legal proceedings underscore a political clash, challenging the veracity of Singh's accusations against Jain.
