Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee is set to report an alleged attack on him to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, following incidents of violence in Sonarpur, South 24 Parganas. According to party sources, Banerjee, who suffered eye injuries, attributes the assault to the BJP, describing it as a deliberately orchestrated attempt on his life.
Five individuals, identified as Akash Gayen, Kajal Das, Debashish Dutta, Nirmalya Sengupta, and Tapan Maiti, have been arrested in connection with the attack. They were presented in the Baruipur court. Expressing gratitude to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his support, Banerjee condemned the attack as political violence, labeling it as 'state-sponsored terrorism' by the BJP.
The BJP, while condemning the attack, suggested it reflected public dissatisfaction with the TMC.
