The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for nine districts across Kerala, warning of impending heavy rainfall in parts of the state over the coming days. Districts such as Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Idukki are among those on alert.
The monsoon's Northern Limit currently extends from the Arabian Sea to the Bay of Bengal, with favorable conditions for further advancement into Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Lakshadweep. The IMD also warns of heavy showers, thundersqualls, and potential heatwaves in several regions.
South India, including parts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu, is poised to experience thunderstorms and gusty winds, potentially reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph. Meanwhile, coastal Andhra Pradesh could face thundersqualls with winds gusting up to 70 kmph.
Northeast India is expected to see ongoing light to moderate rainfall, with isolated heavy showers predicted in Nagaland, Manipur, and surrounding areas. Citizens across impacted regions are advised to remain indoors during thunderstorms and take precautions against heatwaves.
