In response to a confirmed Nipah virus case in a north Kerala district, state authorities have postponed a district-level programme planned for May 12, which was to feature Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, as announced on Friday.

Additionally, an anti-drug initiative led by State Minister for Sports V Abdurahiman, planned for Saturday, has been delayed following the health alert. The patient, a 42-year-old woman from Valanchery municipality, is undergoing treatment at a Perinthalmanna hospital.

Health officials report that 21 samples from seven individuals in close contact with her, including family members, returned negative results for Nipah virus. Authorities are tracing possible contacts and have designated a three-kilometre area around her home as a containment zone.
