Union Health Minister J P Nadda has confirmed that receiving a Covid vaccination does not increase the risk of heart attacks. This statement was made during a session in the Lok Sabha, clarifying public concerns regarding any potential link between vaccination and cardiovascular events.

According to Nadda, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) conducted a detailed multi-centric matched case-control study across 25 hospitals in India. The research included patients aged 18-45 with Acute Myocardial Infarction admitted between October 2021 and January 2023. The study demonstrated that known risk factors such as comorbidities, family history of thrombotic events, and smoking, rather than vaccination status, were associated with heart attacks.

Nadda also noted that ICMR has funded two advanced research centers focused on cardiac disorders over the past two years. Through the National Health Mission, India has bolstered prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, including cardiovascular health, by establishing specialized NCD clinics and cardiac care units nationwide.
