A government school in Chhattisgarh faced a health scare when 78 students received anti-rabies vaccinations following an incident involving contaminated mid-day meals. Local officials initiated an investigation into the incident at Government Middle School in Lachchhanpur, Palari block, where cooked vegetables were reportedly contaminated by a stray dog.
Despite teachers advising against serving the meal, the self-help group responsible proceeded, prompting students to report the incident to their families. This led to concerns among parents and the community. Consequently, the children were taken to the nearest health center, where healthcare providers vaccinated them as a precautionary measure requested by parents and the school management committee.
Authorities, including the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and block education officer, have visited the school to gather details by interviewing students, teachers, and committee members. However, members of the self-help group did not participate in the inquiry. Local MLA Sandeep Sahu has called for a thorough investigation into the matter.
