The Telangana government has sounded an alarm over the Coldrif cough syrup, identified as contaminated with a hazardous substance. It has tasked District Medical and Health Officers with raising public awareness.

The alert, issued following an analysis by the state Drugs Control Administration, identified Diethylene Glycol, a toxic compound, as the adulterant in Coldrif syrup's Batch No. SR-13. Residents possessing the syrup are urged to report it to the local drug control authorities.

The Director of Public Health has also directed officials to adhere to Union Ministry guidelines on prescribing cough syrups to children, emphasizing that these syrups are often unnecessary. Meanwhile, a ban on the syrup is already enforced in Madhya Pradesh, following child fatalities from suspected kidney infections.
