Hantavirus Alert: German Contacts Isolated After Cruise Ship Scare
Four Germans from the MV Hondius cruise ship are in isolation in Frankfurt after potential exposure to the Andes hantavirus. The virus, spreading human-to-human, primarily circulates in Argentina and Chile. The outbreak has resulted in three fatalities. The patients will be transferred to various regions for further care.

In a precautionary measure, four Germans from the cruise ship MV Hondius are under isolation at Frankfurt University Hospital following their overnight arrival. Officials indicate these individuals, all currently asymptomatic, were exposed to the hantavirus outbreak on board.
German health authorities plan to transfer them to Berlin, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Bavaria, and Schleswig-Holstein for continued monitoring and care. The Frankfurt institution confirmed that the group underwent initial medical assessments overnight with no signs of illness detected.
The MV Hondius had sailed from Argentina with mainly British, American, and Spanish passengers. The identified strain, Andes hantavirus, is known for human-to-human transmission and is primarily found in Argentina and Chile. This outbreak has tragically claimed three lives: a Dutch couple and a German citizen.
