Hantavirus Outbreak Rocks MV Hondius Cruise Amidst Global Health Concerns
The MV Hondius cruise ship, hit by a lethal hantavirus outbreak, is docking in Rotterdam, having endured a voyage from the Canary Islands. With 11 confirmed cases and three fatalities, health concerns are paramount. The outbreak is linked to South America, and the vessel will undergo thorough decontamination upon arrival.
The MV Hondius cruise ship, currently impacted by a deadly hantavirus outbreak, is scheduled to make port in Rotterdam, Netherlands, this Monday morning. The ship's recent days have been tumultuous, sailing from the Canary Islands with stringent health protocols in place.
Following the virus outbreak, which has led to 11 confirmed cases among passengers, resulting in three deaths, including a Dutch couple likely exposed in South America, the remaining passengers were evacuated with full-body protective gear. From there, they embarked on flights to over 20 different countries for quarantine purposes.
The World Health Organisation has been closely monitoring the situation. Preventative measures include onboard quarantines, coupled with planned decontamination of the vessel once all individuals have disembarked. Operations will not be disrupted, as the ship remains scheduled for its Arctic expedition departing May 29.
