CK Birla Hospital in Delhi announced a medical milestone by successfully treating a woman suffering from advanced endometriosis. The patient, a 34-year-old from Nepal, had endured severe pain and multiple surgeries over a decade before seeking a definitive solution through the hospital's specialists.
The team conducted the intricate procedure using robotic-assisted surgery to separate densely adhered pelvic organs, a result of extensive scarring from previous interventions. Despite the complexity, surgeons managed to retain both the uterus and ovaries, offering hope to endometriosis patients facing similar challenges.
Dr Aruna Kalra, the hospital's Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, emphasized the necessity of raising awareness about endometriosis, often misconceived as routine menstrual pain. The delay in diagnosis not only affects physical health but also impacts mental well-being and fertility, necessitating early and specialized treatment.
