The United Nations voiced serious concerns on Wednesday over Israel's alleged plans to forcibly relocate Gaza's population to a limited zone in the south of the Strip. UN Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, highlighted the potential risks of such actions, which could undermine the Palestinians' survival in Gaza.
Turk's statement underlined that Israel's reported strategies could exacerbate fears of life-threatening conditions in Gaza. He warned that escalating military tactics, which have yet to resolve ongoing tensions or secure hostage releases, would only result in further civilian displacement and infrastructural devastation.
The commissioner further emphasized that these measures, coupled with the existing blockade on essential goods, would intensify the humanitarian plight in Gaza. Turk condemned the blockade's impact, particularly on food supplies, as tantamount to a war crime and called for adherence to international law to resolve the crisis.
