The European Union has voiced significant concern regarding the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following a string of attacks, including the recent terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22. The EU has consistently condemned all forms of terrorism and is calling for justice for the victims while urging both nations to exercise restraint and prioritize the safety of civilians amidst the heightened conflict.
In a statement released on Thursday, the EU highlighted the importance of de-escalation and dialogue between the nations, emphasizing that every state is responsible for legally protecting its citizens from terrorist acts. The statement noted that the EU's 27 Member States unanimously condemn the attacks and are closely monitoring the ensuing consequences, including potential loss of life.
India recently conducted Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terror sites within Pakistan, prompting Pakistan to retaliate by targeting multiple locations in India using drones and missiles. The Indian Armed Forces responded by neutralizing these threats, and ongoing operations have targeted key terror camps. Meanwhile, Pakistan's cross-border firing has resulted in civilian casualties, complicating efforts to de-escalate the situation.
