The United Nations has reported a distressing surge in violence against children in conflict zones during 2024, marking an unprecedented high in violations since the monitoring began nearly 30 years ago.

According to the Secretary-General's Annual Report on Children and Armed Conflict, over 41,370 grave violations were verified, with the majority occurring in 2024, setting a new record. This marks a 25% increase from the previous year, which was also a record-breaker.

The report highlights that more than 4,500 children have been killed and over 7,000 wounded amidst escalating hostilities. The Palestinian territories topped the list, with over 8,500 serious violations, mostly linked to Israeli forces, pointing to a worsening humanitarian crisis.
