In Muzaffarabad, Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), residents are struggling with severe disruptions in electricity supply and subpar internet connectivity, adversely affecting daily life and vital services. The frequent low voltage incidents have proven particularly damaging, with local households reporting major damage to electrical appliances amid increasing heat conditions.
The Awami Action Committee, a key civil society group, has stepped up efforts to draw urgent attention to these crises. "There is a voltage problem currently inside Muzaffarabad," stated Syed Musharraf Javed Gelani, a member of the committee. Though some local issues were resolved following discussions with the Commissioner, the overarching problem persists. The region's internet services are also faltering, leading to significant problems for traders, journalists, and students who criticize the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for high taxes and package rates.
Calling for immediate government intervention, Gelani emphasized, "One of the biggest issues faced by traders, shopkeepers, civil society, journalists, and merchants is the poor quality of internet service." The Awami Action Committee is actively mobilizing public support to pressure authorities for infrastructure improvements and financial relief to ease the burdens borne by the community.
