In a recent meeting on Tuesday, the high-profile committee chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif could not agree on key demands made by traders from Pakistan-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan (PoGB). The impasse has delayed resolutions until its next session on Wednesday, as reported by Dawn.

The 22-member committee, led by Federal Energy Minister Awais Leghari, met for the fourth time in Islamabad to discuss conflicts related to taxes and consignment clearances through the Khunjerab Pass. Despite participating officials, including senior ministers and PoGB representatives, the meeting concluded without consensus, as stakeholders failed to align on PoGB's demand for tax-free status.

While PoGB representatives argued for tax exemption citing non-tariff status, opposing views emerged from figures like Senator Saleem Mandviwalla who objected to unlimited imports from China and raised concerns about exempting PoGB residents from federal taxes. PoGB lawmakers stressed the urgency of clearing consignments at Sost Dry Port to mitigate mounting trader losses. Due to the deadlock, discussions have been postponed for further deliberation.
