Russian Companies Mobilize to Defend Against Drone Threats
Russian businesses are preparing to finance the purchase of heavier weapons and electronic systems to protect their infrastructure from drone attacks. They have requested clear funding mechanisms and a penalty deferral from Putin despite enhanced security measures with reservists.
In response to escalating drone threats, Russian companies are planning to invest in more robust weaponry and advanced electronic systems to safeguard their facilities. Alexander Shokhin, the head of Russia's leading business lobby, disclosed this initiative during a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.
The government has permitted private security firms guarding industrial sites to use automatic rifles, such as the AK-47, and has mobilized reservists to bolster security. Despite these measures, Shokhin emphasized the need for investment in larger weapons and electronic warfare systems.
Shokhin urged for a finance mechanism that would provide clear schemes for weapon acquisition, potentially through a dedicated fund. Additionally, he requested a deferral of penalties on delayed tax and state payments while industries reconstruct post-attack. Concerns were also raised about the frequent relocation of security units, potentially undermining defenses.
