Thane Constables Arrested for Illicit Mobile Data Trade
Two constables in Thane, Maharashtra, were dismissed and arrested for stealing and selling confidential mobile data to a history-sheeter. After an intelligence report exposed their activities, stringent actions were taken, and an investigation is underway. An additional suspect, Rajput, was also apprehended in connection with the crime.

In a significant breach of trust, two police constables in Maharashtra's Thane district have been dismissed and arrested for allegedly stealing and selling confidential mobile data. The data, including Call Detail Records, was reportedly sold to a known offender, officials revealed on Wednesday.
The constables, Akash Sopan Surve and Harshad Laxman Parab, were part of the Cyber police station and had illicitly sourced sensitive information such as CDR, SDR, and location data. This information was sold to Mohammad Sohel Mohammad Shabbir Rajput, a habitual criminal, the Thane police commissionerate reported.
In response to this criminal breach by public servants, Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre took decisive action by dismissing Surve and Parab. Charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the IT Act have been filed. The case is now with Crime Unit-I for further investigation. Meanwhile, Rajput, who received the data, has also been arrested.
