Port Sudan Under Siege: Drone Warfare Escalates
Sudan's army reports intercepting drones aiming at a naval base in Port Sudan amid ongoing conflict. The Red Sea city, previously stable, now faces drone strikes and assaults by the Rapid Support Forces, threatening its role as a humanitarian aid gateway.

Sudan's military forces reported that on Wednesday, their anti-aircraft systems successfully intercepted drones targeting a naval base in Port Sudan. The city, experiencing a sudden surge in violence, has been the stage for recent drone strikes allegedly orchestrated by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Port Sudan, a pivotal location for humanitarian aid and the site of the nation's largest fuel depots, has been under attack, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between the army and the RSF. Previously seen as a bastion of relative peace since the conflict's outset in April 2023, the city finds itself amidst this power struggle.
The recent attacks highlight the increasing utilization of drones in the war, which has seen territorial control swing between the factions. Despite foreign support aiding both sides, a decisive victor remains unresolved in this protracted battle born out of a power tussle between Sudan's army and the RSF.
