An Italian judge has dismissed all charges against the Oscar-winning screenwriter and director Paul Haggis, concluding that the alleged rape accusations by a British woman were unfounded, according to his legal team.

Haggis, 72, faced detention and house arrest in June 2022 following allegations of rape in Ostuni, where he taught at a film event. A Brindisi court judge ruled the act consensual, clearing Haggis' name.

Haggis, renowned for his work on 'Crash' and 'Million Dollar Baby,' saw his career rocked by these allegations. His lawyers announced a press conference to discuss the case's closure. Meanwhile, a New York court previously ordered him to pay damages over a separate incident.
