In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and India’s decisive counter-operation, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, convened a crucial security review meeting in New Delhi. The session was aimed at strengthening internal security, reviewing the outcomes of Operation Sindoor, and enhancing coordination among the states bordering Pakistan and Nepal.

Held on May 7, 2025, the meeting brought together a comprehensive panel of key stakeholders responsible for national and border security. Participating through video conferencing were the Lieutenant Governors of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, alongside Chief Ministers from the border states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and West Bengal. A representative from the Government of Sikkim also joined the discussions.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), including the Union Home Secretary, Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF), and the Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), reflecting the meeting’s gravity and strategic significance.

Operation Sindoor: A Resounding Answer to Terrorism

The highlight of the session was the review and recognition of Operation Sindoor, the Indian government’s military response to the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22, 2025. Minister Shah, while addressing the gathering, reiterated Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s commitment to taking a strong stand against terrorism.

He lauded the courage of the Indian armed forces and expressed gratitude for Prime Minister Modi’s clear resolve to retaliate decisively. “Operation Sindoor is not just a response—it is a clear message that Bharat will never tolerate any infringement on its sovereignty, borders, or the safety of its people,” Shah declared.

During the operation, carried out in the intervening night of May 6-7, 2025, the Indian armed forces targeted nine specific locations connected to terror groups. The raids, based on precise intelligence inputs, resulted in the complete demolition of terror training camps, weapons stockpiles, and hideouts of outfits such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen.

Mock Drill Preparedness and State-Level Coordination

Shri Amit Shah emphasized the importance of national readiness through mock drills and disaster preparedness plans. He instructed all states to adhere strictly to the new security guidelines. These include ensuring the uninterrupted function of critical services such as hospitals, fire brigades, and the continuous supply of essential goods.

States were also directed to maintain high alertness among personnel from State Disaster Response Forces (SDRF), Civil Defence units, Home Guards, and the National Cadet Corps (NCC). Shah encouraged the involvement of citizens and non-governmental organizations to ensure wider public participation in the national preparedness campaign.

Strengthening Information Security and Public Communication

Addressing the threat posed by misinformation and anti-national narratives, Shah instructed states to be vigilant about the spread of propaganda on social media and other digital platforms. He stressed the need for a coordinated effort between state authorities and central intelligence agencies to swiftly counter disinformation and prevent public panic.

Moreover, he called on local administrations to strengthen surveillance and secure sensitive locations and vulnerable infrastructure. “Efficient communication, both horizontally between agencies and vertically across governance levels, is vital to our national security fabric,” he noted.

Shah concluded the meeting by underlining the importance of public confidence. “We must ensure no unnecessary fear is created. Instead, we must educate people, reassure them, and maintain unwavering vigilance,” he said. He further insisted on seamless coordination between civil authorities, the armed forces, and paramilitary units to uphold peace and security across the country.

Unified Resolve Against Terrorism

The meeting marked a significant step in aligning national and regional leadership in the wake of emerging threats. It showcased the Modi government’s unwavering stance on national security and demonstrated an integrated approach to combating terrorism, securing borders, and maintaining internal stability.

All attendees expressed solidarity with the central government’s actions and congratulated the Indian armed forces on the successful execution of Operation Sindoor, reinforcing the collective resolve to safeguard the nation from any future threat.
