CBI Cracks Down on Corruption: PWD Officials Arrested in Bribery Case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested two Public Works Department (PWD) employees in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district for accepting bribes. An assistant accounts officer and a junior assistant were caught demanding illegal fees to release a General Provident Fund. Evidence was seized during subsequent searches.

The CBI has apprehended two Public Works Department employees in Poonch district for corruption charges, confirmed an official on Wednesday.
An assistant accounts officer and a junior assistant at the executive engineer's office in PWD Surankote were allegedly caught demanding bribes of Rs 30,000 and Rs 8,000 to process a General Provident Fund amounting to over Rs 5 lakh.
After negotiations, the bribe amount was reduced to Rs 20,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively. On Tuesday, a CBI operation successfully caught the accused red-handed as they accepted the bribe. Both employees were arrested and presented before the Special Judge for CBI Cases in Jammu. Further searches revealed more incriminating evidence.
