The North West Provincial Government has launched a vigorous new chapter of its Accelerated Service Delivery Programme, Thuntsha Lerole Reloaded, in the Kgetlengrivier Local Municipality this week. The weeklong initiative, which targets key service delivery and developmental challenges in the region, officially kicked off in the communities of Swartruggens, Derby, Redirile, and the Senthumole section of Koster.

Led by Premier Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi, this expansive programme is a strategic intervention designed to fast-track service provision and infrastructure improvements while addressing community needs across multiple sectors. The final event of the week will take place on Friday, 9 May 2025, at the Reagile Community Hall in Koster, where government departments will offer integrated, on-site social services to the public.

High-Level Leadership and Oversight Engagement

Premier Mokgosi will be joined by Members of the Executive Council (MECs), district and local mayors, and senior government officials throughout the week. The programme includes an active schedule of visits to critical infrastructure projects, a key feature being a community feedback session aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability.

“This initiative is not just about delivering services. It’s about being present with our communities, hearing their challenges firsthand, and demonstrating that we are serious about improving their living conditions,” Premier Mokgosi said in an official statement.

Agricultural Empowerment and Support for Local Farmers

Among the highlights of the programme is a strong emphasis on agricultural empowerment. A shade net tunnel will be officially handed over to the Onalerona Community Centre to boost food production and protect crops from environmental elements. The tunnel is expected to enhance the center’s ability to produce fresh vegetables year-round, contributing to local food security.

Additionally, tailored agricultural packages have been designed for veteran beneficiaries:

  • Poultry Package: Includes one three-tier layer cage, 120 point-of-lay chickens, and a supply of layer mash feed.

  • Goat Package: Features 10 Boer goat does and one Boer goat buck to promote small-scale livestock farming.

In Koornfontein, a 10-hectare center pivot irrigation system will be handed over to a local farmer to improve irrigation and productivity.

Educational and Infrastructure Developments

Education infrastructure is also receiving attention. Officials will conduct a site inspection of the Mphe Bana II Secondary School construction project in Reagile to ensure that the facility is progressing on schedule and meets quality standards. This development aims to alleviate overcrowding in schools and improve educational access for learners in the area.

Simultaneously, road infrastructure upgrades are being prioritized. The Premier’s team will carry out an oversight visit to monitor maintenance along Roads P4/2 and P34/2, including routes through Koster Town. Maintenance activities include:

  • Pothole patching to improve road safety.

  • Grass cutting and verge clearing to enhance visibility.

  • Repairs to high-mast lights and streetlights to increase night-time safety.

Clean Cities Campaign and Community Wellness

In line with creating healthier and cleaner environments, the provincial government has launched an intensified Clean Cities Campaign. This programme will target known illegal dumping hotspots through coordinated litter picking and waste collection drives. The campaign aims to instill pride in local communities and encourage sustainable waste management practices.

Efforts to support community hygiene and dignity are also being amplified. Sanitary towels will be distributed to learners at Mphe Bana Secondary School, an initiative designed to support young women and promote consistent school attendance.

Community Relief and Social Support

As part of broader community relief efforts, the government will distribute food parcels to vulnerable families in the municipality. These parcels are intended to ease the burden of poverty and ensure no family goes hungry during the difficult winter months.

The comprehensive rollout of Thuntsha Lerole Reloaded reflects a concerted effort by the North West Provincial Government to restore public confidence in service delivery while fostering economic empowerment and infrastructural resilience.

As the programme draws to a close on Friday, expectations are high that these focused interventions will yield lasting improvements and set a new benchmark for government-community partnerships in the province.
