Karnataka's Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister, Eshwar Khandre, has issued a call for reform in the Preservation of Trees Act to enhance measures against illegal tree cutting on government property. His assertion comes in the wake of recent Supreme Court disapproval of tree felling practices.

Addressing key officials at Aranya Bhavan, Khandre emphasized the shared duty of guarding trees amidst the global climate concerns. He highlighted public displeasure concerning the permits allowing extensive tree removal under the guise of development.

Khandre also addressed the issue of forest land encroachments, advocating for zero tolerance towards post-2015 encroachments. He issued directives for the resettlement of qualified individuals occupying less than three acres before 2015, ensuring comprehensive action is taken against offenders.
