In a decisive move underscoring India’s proactive stance on national security, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today convened a high-level review meeting with Secretaries from various key Ministries and Departments of the Government of India. The meeting focused on strengthening national preparedness, ensuring inter-ministerial coordination, and reviewing contingency planning in light of recent sensitive developments affecting the nation’s security environment.

Reinforcing Institutional Coordination and Resilience

Opening the meeting, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the necessity of seamless coordination between ministries, government agencies, and institutional frameworks. He highlighted the importance of upholding operational continuity and institutional resilience in the face of rapidly evolving security scenarios.

Underscoring the government’s “Whole of Government” approach, the Prime Minister urged Secretaries to remain agile and responsive. He called on all departments to ensure that essential government operations continue undisrupted even under strain and that their strategic and operational plans are in full readiness for execution.

Ministry-Wise Preparedness Reviewed

During the session, Secretaries from the Ministries of Defence, Home Affairs, External Affairs, Information & Broadcasting, Health, Power, and Telecommunications presented comprehensive reviews of their current preparedness status. They detailed initiatives underway to bolster their ministries' capacity to deal with multiple forms of emerging threats.

Ministries have already activated detailed operational plans, including internal communication mechanisms and emergency response protocols. The focus has been on ensuring readiness to tackle diverse contingencies—from cyber threats and misinformation to civil emergencies and disruptions to critical infrastructure.

The Cabinet Secretary and senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office were also present, contributing to an integrated assessment of national readiness.

Focus Areas: Critical Infrastructure, Misinformation, Civil Defence

The meeting covered a broad spectrum of national security concerns. Key among these were:

  • Civil Defence and Community Readiness: Strengthening the nationwide civil defence framework, including community engagement and ground-level preparedness, especially in urban and border areas.

  • Countering Misinformation: Strategies to monitor, identify, and counter fake news and misinformation—particularly on digital platforms—were discussed. The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting was tasked with ensuring accurate and timely dissemination of verified information.

  • Critical Infrastructure Security: The ministries responsible for energy, health, and telecommunications reported on the safeguarding of essential services. Steps are being taken to ensure uninterrupted functioning of power grids, telecommunication networks, and healthcare delivery systems.

  • State-Level Coordination: Ministries were advised to maintain robust linkages with state governments, local administrations, and district-level institutions. This coordination is crucial for ensuring quick implementation of emergency response measures and ensuring public safety.

PM’s Call for Continued Vigilance

In his concluding remarks, Prime Minister Modi reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to protecting national interests. He called for continued vigilance, proactive intelligence sharing, and effective institutional synergy to navigate the present sensitive period. The Prime Minister urged officials to adopt a forward-looking approach and remain prepared for dynamic changes in the internal and external security environment.

He further stressed that clear communication and transparency between government institutions and the public are essential in maintaining national morale and confidence.

This strategic review reflects the Modi government's broader vision of maintaining a resilient, responsive, and secure governance ecosystem capable of protecting citizens and national interests in uncertain times.
