The Information Technology (IT) department of the Delhi government has uncovered a significant misuse of free ration benefits by over 5,000 government employees, officials announced on Thursday.

In an effort to address the issue, the IT department has provided a detailed list of these employees, complete with ration card numbers, employee codes, and designations, to their respective parent departments.

This discovery emerged from the IT department's work on a unified data hub project designed to streamline various government schemes' data. The project revealed that among 5,621 beneficiaries of the ration scheme, 395 were registered as family heads despite receiving incomes above Rs 1 lakh.
