Fierce Clashes Erupt in Southern Gaza Amid Renewed Offensive
Intense fighting erupted in the southern Gaza Strip near Rafah between Hamas militants and Israeli soldiers. Hamas reported ambushing an Israeli force and causing casualties. The clashes occur as Israel extends its Gaza offensive, following the collapse of a U.S.-backed ceasefire.

Intense clashes broke out Thursday between Hamas militants and Israeli soldiers in the Rafah area of the Gaza Strip's south, the militant group announced.
According to a statement on Telegram, Hamas fighters ambushed Israeli troops in the Tanur neighborhood of eastern Rafah, employing anti-personnel and anti-armor rockets to inflict casualties. This comes as the Israeli military has progressively extended its influence, 19 months into a sustained air and ground operation in Gaza.
No immediate comment from Israel followed the Hamas claims, which are infrequently made about the Rafah region, as past conflicts centered around Khan Younis and northern Gaza. Israel previously announced plans to expand its offensive actions, resuming operations in March after a temporary ceasefire ended.
