A group of city street vendors has called for the rigorous enforcement of the Street Vendors Act 2014, amidst a wave of eviction operations facing them.
The National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI), represented by coordinator Arbind Singh, voiced alarm over the ongoing eviction drives during a recent press meeting. Singh highlighted vendors' fears and concerns over stall removals, despite legal protections.
On Monday, approximately 20,000 stalls were removed, affecting numerous vendors across the city. They expressed dissatisfaction with how legal vending certificates are not being honored, leaving them without resources or solutions. The situation is exacerbated by the misuse of rules intended for mobile vendors, applied to stationary vendors.
