BJP leader G Janardhana Reddy has been disqualified from the Karnataka Legislative Assembly after being convicted in the Obulapuram Mining Company illegal iron ore mining case. This verdict, delivered by a special CBI court, resulted in Reddy's loss of membership and leaves one assembly seat vacant.

The Principal Special Judge for CBI cases in Hyderabad sentenced Reddy and three others to seven years of rigorous imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 10,000 each. The Karnataka Assembly announced his disqualification, stating that it would extend for six years post-release unless a competent court stays the conviction.

Reddy previously split from the BJP to form the Kalyana Rajya Pragati Paksha and won the Gangavati assembly seat. However, he rejoined the BJP before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by merging his party with the saffron party.
