India and Iran Mark 75 Years of Diplomatic Ties with High-Level Dialogue

In a significant diplomatic engagement that underscores the enduring and multifaceted relationship between India and Iran, H.E. Dr. Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, paid a courtesy call on the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 8, 2025. This visit coincides with the landmark celebration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two historically connected nations.
Welcoming Dr. Araghchi to Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Murmu highlighted the symbolic importance of his visit. She emphasized that the 75th anniversary of diplomatic engagement is not merely a milestone but a testament to the strength, resilience, and growth of the bilateral relationship.
The President fondly recalled the millennia-old civilizational ties that bind the peoples of India and Iran. “Our connections go far beyond diplomacy and policy. They are embedded in our languages, literature, cuisine, music, and shared spiritual heritage,” she stated.
Diverse and Strategic Bilateral Engagements
President Murmu observed that over the past 75 years, India and Iran have forged a robust and diverse partnership spanning cultural cooperation, economic exchange, energy collaboration, and strategic coordination in regional and global forums. She acknowledged the regular high-level engagements between the two countries as a key pillar in nurturing this relationship.
One of the notable highlights of the bilateral partnership is the strategic cooperation around the Chabahar Port in southeastern Iran. The President lauded the ongoing collaborative efforts to fully operationalize the port, which holds immense significance for trade connectivity between India, Iran, Afghanistan, and Central Asia. She stressed that this infrastructure is not just an economic asset but a strategic project aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and stability.

During their meeting, the leaders discussed mutual interests in ensuring peace and development across the region.
