The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on Thursday clarified that the demolition of a religious structure in East Delhi's Priyadarshini Vihar was executed under a high court mandate. This statement comes amid accusations from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of political maneuvering by the BJP, which controls the DDA and the Delhi Police.
AAP's Delhi unit chief, Saurabh Bharadwaj, alleged that a temple was targeted for removal, questioning the timing of such an act when India is striving for national unity. He expressed concern over the demolition happening under the gaze of BJP-ruled authorities.
The DDA defended its actions, highlighting compliance with the Delhi High Court's orders from September 2023 and October 2024, for removing unauthorized structures in the area. It condemned the politicization of the issue, accusing opponents of sowing division during a sensitive period.
