The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has launched a targeted crackdown on unauthorised walkie-talkie devices being sold on e-commerce platforms.
Amid heightened India-Pakistan tensions, Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi warned that non-compliant wireless devices pose risks to national security. These sales breach statutory obligations outlined under the Consumer Protection Act, Indian Telegraph Act, and Wireless Telegraphy Act.
The CCPA plans to issue formal guidelines under Section 18(2)(l) of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, to tighten compliance standards and safeguard consumers in the digital marketplace. Sellers must adhere to all regulatory standards to prevent unlawful trade practices, Joshi added.
