In a strategic move to bolster emergency preparedness amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan, Delhi has started installing air raid sirens on high-rise buildings. This initiative, announced by Delhi PWD minister Parvesh Verma, is part of a broader effort to ensure safety in the capital.
The civil defence directorate conducted a test of one such siren atop the PWD building in ITO on Friday. The trial highlighted the siren's capability to be heard within an eight-kilometre radius, serving as a crucial alert system during emergencies, particularly in light of recent military escalations.
Officials assured the public that the exercise was merely a precautionary measure designed to maintain readiness. As part of the protocol, the National Disaster Management Authority will manage these sirens, emphasizing the importance of remaining calm during drills and potential real-life activations.
