A Maharashtra tribunal has awarded a nine-year-old boy Rs 37 lakh in compensation after he sustained a permanent disability in a 2019 accident involving a state-run bus. The incident occurred in Pimpri-Amba village with the bus allegedly being driven rashly.

The boy, who was three years old at the time, lost all sensation in his right hand and was deemed 100% permanently disabled by the tribunal. The Motor Accidents Claim Tribunal cited police investigations and a charge-sheet against the driver as proof of negligence.

The tribunal mandated the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation and the driver to jointly compensate the victim with an additional interest of 7.5% per annum from the claim petition's filing date.
