The Election Commission has addressed and resolved the issue of duplicate voter card numbers, issuing new cards to individuals affected, as per sources on Tuesday. This duplicate voting card number incident was notably negligible, averaging merely one case for approximately four polling stations nationwide.

In response to opposition allegations, including those by the TMC, regarding potential voter list falsification, the Commission reaffirmed its commitment in March to tackle this long-standing issue within three months. The Commission stood by its promise and has since made significant strides towards resolution.

To address this protracted issue comprehensively, chief electoral officers and registration officers across 36 states and Union territories meticulously searched the electoral database encompassing over 99 crore electors. This extensive operation covered all 4,123 assembly constituencies and over 10.50 lakh polling stations, with each station having an average of 1,000 electors.
