The Allahabad High Court is set to deliver its judgment on a controversial dispute involving the Jama Masjid and the Harihar Mandir, as tensions mount in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district.
Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal reserved judgment after hearings from both the masjid committee and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Earlier, a counter-affidavit led to a rejoinder being filed by the masjid committee, with proceedings staying due to the pending declaration request by the Hindu side.
The clash in November has resulted in casualties, highlighting the deep divisions on historical religious claims, as the plaintiffs assert the Shahi Idgah mosque stands on a demolished temple site.
