The Kerala Police have launched an inquiry following a complaint from the Public Relations Officer of Jehovah's Witnesses about a threatening international call. The caller allegedly warned of violence against group members who testify in the Kalamassery serial blast case. The threat includes possible bombings at religious conclaves and prayer halls.
The complaint was lodged at the Kalamassery police station after the call was received from a Malaysian number on May 12 at 9.57 pm. The police have registered an FIR under sections pertaining to promoting enmity and criminal intimidation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation is ongoing.
This threat coincides with the impending trial for the October 2023 blasts during a Jehovah's Witnesses gathering in Kalamassery, which resulted in eight deaths and numerous injuries. Dominic Martin, an allegedly estranged group member, surrendered and accepted responsibility for the incident.
